In 2021 LG had a pretty extensive lineup with multiple series spanning across multiple categories. And it seems that in 2022 they will have an even stronger showing with even more models in each particular series. And today in our LG TVs for 2022 guide we are going to analyze everything LG brings to the table this year.

LG may not draw as much attention this year as Samsung and Sony are with their new QD-OLED offerings but surely they remain a force to be reckoned with and their OLED and miniLED lineups have the potential to be best sellers once more.

OLED Evo seems to be what LG have in their arsenal in order to combat Samsung’s QD-OLED and while this is not new technology as we had seen this in last year’s G1 it seems that LG has both improved and expanded this tech as it is now included in their fan favorite C2 also.

But LG is not only OLED. Their miniLED lineup consist of up to four models that are direct replacements of last year’s offerings, their NanoCell lineup is still present although in a more reduced capacity and lastly their UQ series spans across multiple models for those cost sensitive consumers that look only for the basics.

LG TVs for 2022

It seems that LG’s Magic Remote has remained the same this year as they had already redesigned the thing in 2021.

In terms of technologies we get this year, LG has updated their entire processor lineup but as always we don’t know if these are just updates or new silicone altogether. LG is still on the Dolby Vision bandwagon and refuses to acknowledge HDR10+ while webOS 22 is the OS of choice for this year.

One of LG’s major strengths is the use of four HDMI 2.1 ports in many of its new releases and along with the use of 100/120Hz panels and low input lag values almost across their entire release lineup they are posed to be a central focus for the gaming arena once more.

As with the other main manufacturers LG will be releasing for the first time a 42″ OLED which we are sure will find acceptance among gamers while other new developments include an Always Ready function along with user profiles for the webOS platform.

Unfortunately just like Samsung, LG has completely ditched DTS support so if you really want this then Sony is your only option from the big three.

So let’s see what they have for 2022.

OLED Series

The OLED series is deviced into two categories. The regular OLED ones and the OLED Evo. The Z2 along with the B2 and A2 will be regular OLEDs while the C2 and G2 are OLED Evo.

Now there has been a lot of confusion of all the OLED technologies and with the announcement of the new OLED EX things are not becoming any easier. According to LG OLED Evo is a combination of the improved WBE panel, better processing and more refined algorithms in order to up the brightness and display better colors than previously possible in traditional OLED TVs.

Also the G2 will be able to get brighter than the C2 because of the use of Brightness Booster Max along with a heatsink that will protect the panel and lower the temperatures when pushed too much.

So if the inclusion of OLED Evo in the C2 is one major point in the OLED category for LG then surely the other is the release of a new smaller 42″ size. Keep in mind that while the 42″ is also branded as OLED Evo it is not as bright as the bigger sizes.

As for everything else the OLED series comes with all the latest tech like the a9 Gen 5 AI processor, 100/120Hz panels, HDMI 2.1 ports and features the new webOS 22.

LG TVs for 2022

From the above you can exclude the LG A2 as for one more year comes with far reduced specs compared to the rest of the series.

QNED series

The QNED series will be the top of the line LED LCDs LG will be offering for 2022 and to be honest there are not many changes here. We still get two 8K models and two 4K ones with all of them featuring the better miniLED backlight system.

Looking at all the specs the QNED99, QNED95, QNED90 and QNED85 look awfully similar to their predecessors in terms of hardware and whatever changes we do get have more to do with the new features included in the webOS mostly.

All the miniLED TVs come with the updated a9 and a7 Gen 5 processors and feature HDMI 2.1 although only the 8K ones come with four of them.

NanoCell series

NanoCell seems to slowly being phased out as we only get two models in 2022 while they have moved from clearly a mid-tier position to a more mid to low position in the performance ladder.

LG TVs for 2022

These come with either Edge or Direct LED backlights and feature the new a5 Gen 5 AI processor 4K while they are stripped completely of HDMI 2.1 or any of its gaming centric features.

As a result these are mostly aimed for those looking for a more cost sensitive TV model.

Entry level UQ series

Lastly we have the UHD series which is the most affordable TVs LG will be offering this year and they go by the UQ naming.

There are several models in this series and most of them look very similar to each other in terms of specs. As always in these low cost models what is changing is mostly the design along with some more specialized features that are aim at specific markets so it is hard to tell them apart without any detailed information.

New tech and features for 2022

As we mentioned above LG may not have a new panel on offer this year even though there seems to be a lot of confusion with LG Display’s OLED EX announcement. But this doesn’t mean that they don’t have anything interesting for 2022.

LG TVs for 2022
OLED Evo

OLED Evo is becoming more mainstream with its expansion to the C2 series. OLED Evo made a debut last year in the G1 and this year LG seems to have further improved it as it is a combination of the new WBE panel along with algorithms that in the G2 are called Brightness Booster Max and in the C2 Brightness Booster in order to push the brightness output at higher levels than before was possible.

New Gen 5 processors

It’s pretty hard to understand the difference of their yearly processors but LG has been marketing heavily their next generation Gen 5 variants. How much of an improvement compared to last year’s Gen 4 are we cannot be certain as LG doesn’t provide much more than the usual marketing material which is more or less similar to what they claimed in 2021.

But taking 2021 as an example we expect a strong showcase for this year’s silicone also.

Higher bandwidth HDMI 2.1 ports

Another smaller change is that LG has updated this year’s HDMI 2.1 ports to support full 48Gbps bandwidth. In reality this doesn’t make any difference as the 40Gbps cap from 2021 was still more than enough for all content available, even high frame rate gaming.

LG TVs for 2022
Always Ready

One new addition in some of the 2022 models is the “Always Ready” function. With this when you press the power button the TV will show artwork, personal photos, and use Bluetooth speaker capabilities. If the TV is playing some music with a double tap or long press of the power button will make the screen go black but music will continue playing. Also certain voice commands will be active in this mode.

This feature is included in the LG C2, G2, QNED99, QNED96 and QNED91 models.

User Profiles

Another new addition in the 2022 version of webOS is user profiles as each family member can have their own favorite settings and streaming apps. Keep in mind that these user profiles do not extend to the image settings of the TV itself as these will remain universal for all.

Closing

LG may not have as impressive new developments as Samsung and Sony have this year but to be honest they already had a very strong lineup from last year. 2022 feels more like a small refresh of what they offered the year before and they made sure to add new models in order to satisfy all needs.

LG TVs for 2022

Their most notable change has to do with the C2 OLED. The C series was always a fan favorite over the years and the inclusion of OLED Evo along with the addition of the smaller 42″ size will surely cement its position as the leading gaming TV for one more year.

As always to keep things as simple as possible we have added comparison tables at the beginning and end of this guide in order to have a way of comparing between the most significant features of each new TV directly.

Before closing this part we should mention that you can check our New Product Lineups section for more reviews and articles which we will update as we manage to get our hands on these new releases.

So without further delay let’s analyze each model separately.

In 2022 LG has updated the C2 by including it in the OLED Evo program meaning that it gets a boost in brightness compared to last year although not at the same level as the G2 as it comes with the lowered spec Brightness Booster feature.

The C2 series is also expanding this year as a new smaller 42″ size will be available for the first time making it an excellent option for gamers.

LG B2 (4K OLED TV)

Similar models : B26
LG TVs for 2022 | LG B2 OLED

Type : Flat

The LG B2 comes with many of the same specs we find in the better C2 but as usual we get a few reductions to accompany the lower price. As such the B2 comes with the less capable a7 Gen 5 AI processor, it looses the OLED Evo tech, has a less capable audio system and comes only with two HDMI 2.1 ports. Everything else seems to be the same.

LG A2 (4K OLED TV)

Similar models : A26
LG TVs for 2022 | LG A2 OLED

Type : Flat

For one more year the LG A2 will be the company’s most affordable OLED. Compared to the B2 there are two major reductions with one being the use of a 50/60Hz panel and the complete absence of HDMI 2.1 ports. As a result the A2 is loosing all game centric features like 120Hz gaming and VRR but at least there is still ALLM support.

Specifications
  • 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160)
  • OLED display
  • 50/60Hz frequency

LG TVs for 2022 | LG QNED99

Type : Flat

As was the case in 2021 LG brings two miniLED TVs in 8K and another two in 4K. The QNED99 (2022 edition) brings a few updates over last year with the new a9 Gen 5 AI processor 8K along with updated WiFi 6.

Also it comes with what LG calls Precision Dimming Pro+ which indicates that the QNED99 comes with the most number of dimming zones among the miniLED TVs this year.

Everything else remains the same with this TV being equipped with all the latest features from LG.

Specifications
  • 8K resolution (7,680 x 4,320)
  • IPS LED LCD display technology

LG QNED95 2022 (8K miniLED LCD TV)

Similar models : QNED96
LG TVs for 2022 | LG QNED95

Type : Flat

The QNED95 is not all that different from the QNED99. What have changed in this one is the use of a 50/60Hz panel mostly and also the absence of VRR tech. Everything else seems to be the same so in essence the QNED95 seems to be made mostly for those that want an 8K miniLED but don’t care about gaming.

Specifications
  • 8K resolution (7,680 x 4,320)
  • IPS LED LCD display technology
  • miniLED FALD backlight
  • Precision Dimming Pro+
  • 50/60Hz frequency

Similar models : QNED91
LG TVs for 2022 | LG QNED90

Type : Flat

The QNED90 is the best 4K miniLED from LG and compared to last year’s QNED90 release this one comes with the new a7 Gen 5 AI processor 4K while it seems that this year it is also equipped with four HDMI 2.1 ports.

Its Precision Dimming Pro system indicates that the QNED90 has less dimming zones than its 8K counterparts but actual numbers were not available at the time of writing this article.

Specifications
  • 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160)
  • IPS LED LCD display technology
  • miniLED FALD backlight
  • Precision Dimming Pro
  • 100/120Hz frequency

LG QNED85 2022 (4K miniLED LCD TV)

Similar models : QNED86, QNED87
LG TVs for 2022 | LG QNED85

Type : Flat

The QNED85 is LG’s most affordable miniLED TV and this year it seems that it comes with all the same updates that we saw in the above QNED90. A 100/120Hz panel is utilized along with four HDMI 2.1 ports making it an excellent gaming TV.

The difference with the QNED90 seems to be the use of Precision Dimming instead of the Pro version which most probably means less dimming zones available. Everything else is exactly the same.

Specifications
  • 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160)
  • IPS LED LCD display technology
  • miniLED FALD backlight
  • Precision Dimming
  • 100/120Hz frequency

LG QNED80 2022 (4K LED LCD TV)

Similar models : QNED81, QNED82
LG TVs for 2022 | LG QNED80

Type : Flat

The QNED80 seems to be a new entry this year as there is no similar model from 2021 that it replaces. Keep in mind that despite its name the QNED80 has no connection with its miniLED brothers from above as this one switches to a far less capable Edge LED backlight system.

At least it still retains a few advanced characteristics like the a7 Gen 5 AI processor 4K, a 100/120Hz panel along with four HDMI 2.1 ports with all their gaming centric features.

Strangely enough the QNED80 looses Dolby Vision support and has to settle only for the basic HDR10 and HLG. This is also the first TV that looses Dolby Atmos support.

Specifications
  • 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160)
  • IPS LED LCD display technology
  • Edge LED backlight
  • Dimming Pro
  • 100/120Hz frequency
  • a7 Gen 5 AI Processor 4K
  • HDR10, HLG
  • 2.2 channels 40W
  • webOS 22, Airplay 2, Game Optimizer

  • WiFi5, Bluetooth 5.0

LG NANO80 2022 (4K LED LCD TV)

Similar models : NANO81
LG TVs for 2022 | LG NANO80

Type : Flat

The NANO80 is the one of only two NANO models this year as it seems that LG is slowly phasing this lineup out of their yearly release plan. The NANO80’s specs are pretty basic using what now LG calls a a5 Gen 5 AI processor 4K which was not present last year. Surprisingly we get Dolby Vision support which is not going to help a lot in such a low performing model while a 50/60Hz panel along with only HDMI 2.0 ports indicate that the NANO80 is stripped of all gaming features.

Specifications
  • 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160)
  • IPS LED LCD display technology (VA 50″)
  • Edge LED backlight
  • Dimming Pro
  • 50/60Hz frequency
  • a5 Gen 5 AI Processor 4K
  • HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision
  • 2.0 channels 20W
  • webOS 22, Airplay 2, Game Optimizer
  • 4 x HDMI 2.0
  • ARC / eARC, ALLM
  • WiFi5, Bluetooth 5.0

LG NANO75 2022 (4K LED LCD TV)

Similar models : NANO76, NANO78
LG TVs for 2022 | LG NANO75

Type : Flat

Compared to the NANO80 the NANO75 comes with a few notable reductions. These include the use of a Direct LED backlight instead of Edge LED and as a result it looses the Dimming Pro certification meaning that the NANO75 has a less capable panel and backlight in comparison.

The TV is also stripped of Dolby Vision and we find three HDMI ports instead of four. The rest of the features remain the same.

Specifications
  • 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160)
  • IPS LED LCD display technology (VA 50″)
  • Direct LED backlight
  • 50/60Hz frequency
  • a5 Gen 5 AI Processor 4K
  • HDR10, HLG
  • 2.0 channels 20W
  • webOS 22, Airplay 2, Game Optimizer
  • 3 x HDMI 2.0
  • ARC / eARC, ALLM
  • WiFi5, Bluetooth 5.0

LG UQ90 (4K LED LCD TV)

Similar models : UQ9000, UQ9100
LG TVs for 2022 | LG UQ90

Type : Flat

The UQ series will be LG’s most affordable TVs in 2022. There is not much difference here compared to the NANO75 other than the loss of the Nanocell technology and as a result the UQ series will have worse color performance. Everything else remained the same.

Our full analysis of this TV can be found in our LG UQ9000 review link.

Specifications
  • 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160)
  • IPS LED LCD display technology (VA 50″)

  1. One of the best guides for the new TVs from LG I have seen online. There are others, obviously, but the way you write and how you create these articles is very easy to understand and certainly I love the comparison tables you are making. So much easier to understand their differences and have them all grouped together. Great work!

  2. Hi Stratos

LG really has a lot new models this year. There are so many variants especially at the lower tiers that it is really difficult to know what to choose from. Maybe you could give me your opinion on what to choose from because I really have no idea what to go for.
